Upcoming Souls-Like Games 2022 and Beyond

The success of Elden Ring has elevated the souls’ genre from a niche category to mainstream fame. With nearly a million players on steam, and over 12 million units sold, the success of the game surpasses even the expectations of Bandai Namco.

With that said, it’s a given that more players would be looking to scratch that souls-like itch once they’ve completed their 10th playthrough of Elden Ring. We’ve got you covered!

Here are some upcoming souls-like games releasing in 2022 and beyond.

Salt and Sacrifice

Release Date: 10th May 2022
Platforms:  PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5

Salt and sacrifice is the much-anticipated sequel to the popular 2D souls-like Salt and Sanctuary.

Power-hungry mages have plunged the once peaceful land into total chaos. You play as a marked inquisitor, a member of a group whose sole purpose is to rid the land of mages and their foul magic.

The game features an expanded combat system with new weapons and combos, as well as tools to improve ease of movement as you travel around the Kingdom.

Multiplayer makes a comeback with Co-op which lets you play with a friend or a random stranger. There are also Dark Souls-style invasions.

Dolmen

Release Date: 20th May 2022

Dolmen is a souls-like action RPG that takes place in a hostile alien world known as Revion Prime.

You are tasked with exploring this alien world to extract samples of a mysterious crystal known as Dolmen. This crystal has unique properties which allow for interactions between alternate realities.

This task won’t be easy, however, as the world is filled with various hostile monstrosities that will put your combat skills to the test.

The game features a variety of melee and ranged weapons allowing for extra versatility in combat as well as an energy mode that imbues your weapons with various elemental effects.

Steelrising

Release Date: June 2022
Platforms:  Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5

Steelrising takes place in Paris, in 1789. The French Revolution has been forcibly suppressed by Louis XVI through the use of brutal mechanical monstrosities.

In the midst of all the chaos, you play as Aegis, a mechanical automation created by Vaucanson, an engineer in the service of the Clockwork King.

Aegis is highly customizable and encourages a wide variety of different builds, from a deadly dancer to a practitioner of the elemental arts.

The game features a fascinating story set in an alternate history with a cast of diverse characters. There is currently no specific release date, but according to Steam, the game will release sometime in June.

Alaloth: Champion of The Four Kingdoms

Platforms: Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows, Xbox One

Alaloth: Champion of The Four Kingdoms is an Isometric action RPG with clear inspirations from classics such as Baldur’s Gate.

The story centers around Alaloth,  a dark god who turned on his pantheon and came to the mortal realms where he was imprisoned. This wasn’t enough to contain him as his evil influence still spreads throughout the lands, threatening all that lives within.

You choose your character from four different races(Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Orcs) and over 40 clans and houses to fight for, each with their own history.

The game features skill-based combat in which reckless moves are severely punished. Players can choose from three Ways of Power – Arms, Gods, and Nature. Each category also has distinct professions to choose from.

The game doesn’t have a specific release date for now but a 2022 release looks likely.

Bleak Faith: Forsaken

Bleak Faith: Forsaken is an ambitious souls-like action RPG developed by a 2-man team Archangel Studios.

The game takes place in a bleak world known as the Omnistructure, a land where civilization is nearly extinct. As you explore the lands, you’ll stumble across the last remnants of what’s left of civilization and uncover the secrets that led to that extinction.

The game features the usual bells and whistles you’d expect from a souls-like – over-the-top boss fights, epic music, character progression, class building, and weird-looking enemies. The game also includes the ability to climb various surfaces Breath of The Wild style.

Bleak Faith: Forsaken is expected to release sometime in 2022.

Thymesia

Release Date: TBA 2022
Platforms: Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5

Thymesia is an action RPG with fast-paced combat centered around a plague system.

The game takes place in a land destroyed by alchemy. The land previously thrived on the power of alchemy, but it was discovered that the practice came with a heavy price. An attempt was made to stop but this backfired in the worst way imaginable. Now, the streets are littered with disease-ridden monstrosities, and the once vibrant kingdom fell to ruin.

You play as Corvus, a man plagued with amnesia who has a strange gift, the ability to harness the plague and weaponize it. With these abilities, you must recover his past whilst facing off against gruesome enemies and grotesque bosses.

Thymesia was to release in January of this year but has been delayed. A 2022 release is still likely.

Soulstice

Release Date: 2022
Platforms:  Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5

Soulstice is an upcoming souls-like action RPG set in a dark fantasy world.

The Holy Kingdom of Keidas has been invaded by powerful, aggressive monsters known as “Wraiths”. These monsters have the ability to corrupt their victims and possess their bodies, turning them into vicious monstrosities.

The only hope of the kingdom is the “Chimeras” – powerful warriors born from the fusion of two souls. You play as Briar and Lute, two sisters reborn as chimeras.

The game features fast-paced brutal combat, weapon customization, and various abilities to play with. Explore the Kingdom, battle various enemies and take back the land from these monsters.

Soulstice is expected to release sometime this year.

Elderand

Release Date: TBA 2022
Platforms: Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 5

Elderand is a 2D souls-like action RPG centered around discovery and combat. You’ll explore the land for treasures, monsters to slay, and dark secrets to discover.

The game features gory, skilled-based combat combined with gorgeous pixel art.

Elderand is expected to release sometime this year.

The Last Hero of Nostalgaia

Release Date: 2022
Platforms:  Xbox Series X and Series S, Microsoft Windows, Xbox One

The Last Hero of Nostalgaia is a charming, satirical Action RPG

The world of video games known as Nostalgaia is slowly collapsing. The once beautiful graphical fidelity of the land is beginning to revert into a pixellated mess.

All hope is not yet lost, however, you play as a pixelated stick figure and it’s up to you to discover what it is that ails the land. Alongside you is the narrator of this story who will regularly remind you how much he hates your pixelated guts.

The game features traditional souls like combat. You start with a sword, shield, the ability to dodge. As you explore you’ll unlock more weapons and armor as well as other useful skills.

The Last Hero of Nostalgaia is slated to release sometime this year.

Hollow Knight: Silksong

Release Date: TBA
Platforms: Nintendo Switch, macOS, Linux, Microsoft Windows, Macintosh operating systems

Hollow Knight: Silksong is the long-awaited sequel to popular souls-like Metroidvania Hollow Knight.

This time you play as Hornet as she explores an entirely new kingdom, solving mysteries as she journeys to reach the Kingdom’s peak.

The game features beautiful visuals, new skills and powers, and over 150 new enemies to slay.

There is currently no specific date given as to when Silksong will release, so a 2023 release is not completely out of the window.
